Raw hemp seeds are a powerhouse of complete plant-based protein, B vitamins and vitamin D, calcium, iron and dietary fibre. They’re widely considered one of the most perfect foods for both athletes and more sedentary people, thanks to their broad spectrum of nutrients for optimal health.
Essential Fats
They provide us with those important protective skin vitamins A and E, and an ideally balanced ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats, to boost cell membranes and protect against inflammation.
When dry skin or spotty breakouts crop up, I increase my intake of omega-3 fats and I believe it helps to reduce inflammation and support softer, smoother skin.
Omega-3 fats are highly anti-inflammatory and are important for the repair of your skin, to maintain healthy moisture content, for general flexibility and they’re important for the structure of each and every cell wall in your body to keep them fluid and supple.

Culinary Uses of Hemp Seed
Hemp seeds are used in many packaged products, usually found in health food stores. Some of these products, such as hemp milk and ground hemp flour, are relatively simple to make at home from the seeds. Other products are not so easily replicated such as hemp oil, hemp ice cream, and hemp protein powder. Hemp has a slightly nutty flavor, perhaps best comparable to pine nuts, but of course, the texture is quite different.
"Protein" for Fitness
These tiny superfood seeds are a complete source of easily-digested plant protein, with 7.4g of protein per serving, making them a super food to support fitness goals. I often add a tablespoon or two to a post-training protein smoothie to help boost its healthy fat and amino acid content.
Another great option is to add a scoop of hemp protein powder to shakes and smoothies. Just look out for a cure brand, free from added sugar or chemical sweeteners.
How to Use Hemp Seeds
Try sprinkling hemp seeds over a salad or as a topping on granola, puddings, or other desserts. Frequently sold as a superfood, hemp seeds can be added to smoothies both at home and in many cafes and juice bars. They can also be used in baking and cooking, though the nutritional content is at its highest in its raw state.
